# Archived contacts

> Archive a contact's conversations to clear them out of your Inbox, find them again in the Archive view, and bring them back.

Archiving clears a contact's conversation out of your [Inbox](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/inbox.md) without deleting anything. Use it for conversations that are finished, such as a lead who's booked or said no, so your Inbox only shows people who still need attention.

Archiving works per **contact**. When you archive one message, every call, text and email with that contact moves to the archive together.

## Before you start

- You archive from the [Inbox](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/inbox.md).
- You need permission to update calls, texts or emails. See [Team members](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/team-members.md).
- Archiving doesn't delete the contact, change their lists or tags, or stop campaigns from reaching them. To stop contact, use Do Not Call. See [Contacts](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/contacts.md#mark-a-contact-do-not-call-text-or-email).

## Archive a conversation

1. Click **Inbox** in the top navigation.
2. Click the conversation you want to archive.
3. Click **Archive** above the conversation list.

The conversation leaves your Inbox. It may take a moment for it to move fully into the archive.

## View archived conversations

1. In the Inbox, click the **Inbox** heading at the top of the conversation list. It changes to **Archive** and the list shows archived conversations.
2. Click **Archive** again to go back to the Inbox.

On a phone or narrow window, choose **Archived** from the inbox picker at the top of the screen instead.

## Restore an archived conversation

1. Open the Archive view.
2. Click the conversation.
3. Click **Archive** (shown as **Unarchive** in some versions of the Inbox).

All of that contact's conversations return to your Inbox.

## Common questions

**Is an archived contact still in my lists and searches?** Yes. Archiving only affects the Inbox. The contact stays in [Contacts](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/contacts.md) and on every [list](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/lists.md).

**Can I still see archived messages on the contact's page?** Yes. A contact's full history includes archived conversations.

**Can I archive just one message?** No. Archiving always moves every conversation with that contact.
