# Prompt variables

> Store your company details once and reuse them in your voice prompt and intros with placeholders.

**Prompt variables** are the facts about your business that the AI agent needs on every call: your company name, the agent's name, who you are, what you want from the call and who you're calling. You fill them in once. Your voice prompt and intros then refer to them with placeholders, so updating a fact here updates every script that uses it.

## Before you start

- Your role needs permission to change AI settings. See [Team members](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/team-members.md).
- Have a short description of your company and offer ready.

## Fill in your prompt variables

1. Go to **AI › Teach Your Bot › Prompt Variables**.
2. Type a value in each box. Keep each one short and factual (see the table below).
3. Click **Save** at the bottom of the page.

Changes apply to calls that start after you save.

## Use a variable in your scripts

Each variable has a placeholder made from its name in lowercase with underscores, inside curly brackets. For example, **Company Name** becomes `{company_name}`.

1. Open **Teach Your Bot › Voice Prompt** or **Intros**.
2. Type the placeholder where you want the value to appear, for example: *Hi {name}, this is {bot_name} from {company_name}.*
3. Save the prompt or intro.

On the Voice Prompt tab, the **Variables** panel lists the placeholders you can use. Click one to insert it into the prompt.

## Settings explained

| Variable | Placeholder | What to write |
|---|---|---|
| **Company Name** | `{company_name}` | Your business name as the agent should say it. |
| **Bot Name** | `{bot_name}` | The name the agent introduces itself with. |
| **Who You Are** | `{who_you_are}` | One or two sentences about your company and what you offer. |
| **What Is Your Goal** | `{what_is_your_goal}` | What a successful call looks like, for example *qualify the lead and transfer them to a licensed agent*. |
| **Who You Are Calling** | `{who_you_are_calling}` | Who the leads are and why they're being called, for example *homeowners who asked for a solar quote*. |
| **Pricing Rule** | `{pricing_rule}` | What the agent may say about price, or that it should never quote prices. |
| **Additional Instructions** | `{additional_instructions}` | Any other short rule you want available to your prompts. |
| **Tenant External Api Endpoint** | `{tenant_external_api_endpoint}` | Only if your Bigly account team asks you to fill it in. |

Filling in a variable doesn't change the agent's behaviour on its own. The value is only used where your voice prompt or an intro includes its placeholder.

## Troubleshooting

**The agent reads a placeholder out loud, or leaves a gap where the value should be.** Check that the placeholder is spelled exactly as in the table above, inside curly brackets, and that the variable has a value. Bigly doesn't warn you about a placeholder it can't fill, so place a [test call](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/test-calls.md) after changes.

**I want to see who changed a variable.** Every save is recorded in the [activity log](https://docs.biglysales.com/manual/activity-log.md) under **Prompt Variables**, and you can roll a change back there.

**Some text I saved was removed.** Bigly strips text that looks like an attempt to override the agent's instructions. Rephrase the value as a plain fact.
